Deconstruction Alan Chamo
Posted on Wed, Feb. 06, 2008
ALAN CHAMO, 31, magician and owner of Magic Hut stores. Born in Argentina and raised in Israel, Chamo lives in South Beach.
`` If I do a corporate event, which is more formal, I wear this. I try to avoid ties. I want to be a little bit different from the person who is watching me. It's important for me to give a young, clean, hip look.
`` When you present to a large audience, you have be likable. Also, the kind of magic I do requires authority so people will follow your instructions. Spoon bendings, mind readings, even transferring energy, making things float, making things move -- that's all part of mentalism.
``You have to appear respectful of them with your appearance, and you have to look respectable. Even though I always believe the magic is in me and not what I wear.''
Shoes: Aldo
Suit: Zara
Shirt: Zara
Necklace: The Alephbet collection by designer Alison Bellulo contains the Hebrew alphabet written four times. ``It's supposed to give you good luck. I just wear it because I like it.''
Belt: Montblanc

Profile

Alan Chamo did not come into this world by magic, but he has made his world a magic one!

Alan was brought up in diverse cultures and different countries. He learned the different customs, arts, languages, tastes and the festive moods of each country he visited and lived in. This valuable experience has helped Alan mold an international profile.

He was born in Buenos Aires. At the youthful age of 7 his uncle introduced him to the world of magic. He developed his other natural talents: music and performing arts.

He later traveled to Israel, where he joined the army. During his tough years of recruitment, Alan polished his skills and became the first magician of the Israeli army. As such, he performed in front of soldiers and officials for two years.

While in the army, his inborn talent put him in charge of organizing shows, coordinating actors, comedians, stage design, lights and sound.

When his family established in Spain, Alan embarked on his own journey and moved to Miami Beach in 1998 with hopes of conquering the show business Mecca.

The multicultural scene of Miami helped Alan develop a meteoric rise to stardom, which placed him in the spotlight. He performed in the most watched Spanish-language programs in the U.S (Don Francisco, Despierta América, Lente Loco, República Deportiva among others) His television appearances have made him a permanent and noteworthy celebrity of Latin show business. He has performed for the most diverse audiences throughout the U.S in English, Spanish and Hebrew.

Alan is an award winner of the international brotherhood of Magicians competition, held in Hong Kong in 1999.

In the year 2000, Alan created Magic Hut®. This undertaking started with three stores in Bayside, Aventura Mall and Sawgrass Mills, and has quickly expanded by creating an Internet portal that sells hundreds of various magic products and accessories worldwide. Magic Hut also produces Alan Chamo’s shows.

Alan Chamo was the first magician asked to participate in “Premio Lo Nuestro”, the most prestigious awards ceremony within the Hispanic community. Alan performed his magic, live, in front of 50 million viewers.

Establishing himself as the most popular magician amongst Hispanics in the U.S., Alan’s success has led him to start producing his own television show which will air soon.

Younger than Merlin, more experienced than Harry Potter and more accessible than Houdini, Alan Chamo captivates and entertains audiences with his unique style, his charm and his vibrant personality.

I admire: My family for always standing by me and for teaching me to be persistent.

Hobbies: magic began as a hobby and it later became an art and my profession. I also like skating and going to the movies.

Favorite Movies: 12 Monkeys, Schindler’s List, The Patriot and CinemaParadiso.

First magic trick: It was a trick using cards in which I would tell a story about four thieves that robbed a bank.

Favorite toy: Magic was enough to keep me entertained.

Actor/Actress: Brad Pitt, Sean Connery, Dustin Hoffman, Al Paccino, Meryl Strip

When I was a kid I wanted to be... a parachutist.

If I weren’t a magician I would be… an astronaut because I’m always up in the air.
